Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines



The Research Journal “Al-Qalam” was established in 1995 with the aim to accelerate the research outcome through the publications of researchers and scholars from Pakistan and all over the world as well. It is devoted primarily to the publication of research in diverse fields of Islamic learning, literature, culture and current issues in Islamic discourse and in the history of Muslim world. Research articles based on sources in Western culture will also be published in instances where the editors consider the material especially relevant to the purposes of the Journal.

“Al-Qalam” is a trilingual (Urdu, Arabic, English) research journal which is published biannually from 2010. This has been issued on paper and is being issued electronically from 2009 onward.

Access to the electronic files of the Journal is currently free. This policy will be reviewed each year in the light of experience during previous years of publication. It is in any event the goal of the editors to continue to make the Journal's electronic files available at the lowest possible cost. Scholarly manuscripts pertaining to any of the areas mentioned in the Journal's Editorial Policy are welcome. Papers will be published subject to peer review by appropriate members of the Editorial Board and blind review by external evaluators selected at the Editor's discretion from the list of Al-Qalam’s reviewer.
Research articles, must be submitted according to the submission procedures described below. 

For the convenience of authors, the Journal treats submission and publication as a two-stage process. Guidelines on submission and preparing an accepted manuscript for publication and information on the reformatting and alterations that may be necessary to accommodate the requirements of the electronic medium are outlined below. All authors should follow the guidelines for submission.
A. B. All submissions should be preceded by a title page containing the title of the manuscript and certain information about it, the name(s) of the author(s), any affiliations, mail and e-mail addresses, and telephone and telefax numbers. The title page should be formatted as in the following example:

C. Please include an abstract of not more than 150 words.
D. Please include five key words after the abstract.
E. Depending on the opinion of the editors, editorial board and external evaluators, articles will be:
a) Approved for publication without alteration, 
b) Approved subject to modification, or 
c) Declined. 

Formatting Guidelines:
  The articles submitted for consideration must be typed on one side of A4 size paper, with appropriate margins on each side and not less than 0.75 inches.

  A. Urdu/Arabic Articles:
    1. Since the Journal is now uploaded on net, it had been decided that no article typed in Inpage is accepted, instead M.S.Word Urdu enabled in Jamil Nastilq Fonts, which is easily available on World Wide Web, is accepted.

2. Font size for body text must be 14. 

3. Traditional Arabic Fonts recommended for Arabic articles. 

4. Heading font must not exceed to 18 font size. 

5. Keeping in view all the above instructions, the article must not exceed 15 pages. 

B. English Articles:
  1. English Articles must be typed with the 12 font size in Times New Roman Font. 

2. Heading font must not exceed to 18 font size.

3. Length of the article must not increase 7000 words.
